We decided today to stay put as we were getting a late start and have a long way to go to our next camp. We woke to 35 degrees outside and not much warmer inside. The propane furnace conked out sometime after midnight. Curiously, when we tried to light the propane stove to heat water for hot chocolate to warm us up, it would not start either. Furthermore, the refrigerator had also conked in the night, and our beloved Fudgesicles were all melted! Catastrophe!
We did have electrical power, so we heated water in the microwave and the chocolate was delicious. We thought we had run out of propane so got some more, but it only took 1.9 gallons, so that was not the case. When we tried the stove and fridge after filling the tank, everything worked fine. Either the strong winds last night blew it out or ?
We then filled our water tank and tried to dump the holding tanks. However, we couldn't get the connections on the hose to match up with the RV site. We have only camped at camps with dumps stations. RV parks have a special connection receptacle. We tried a piece we bought at the RV store here at the park, but it did not work either.
We finally decided to go to town to find an RV supply store. We discovered that, with all the hundreds of RV's all around us, there is no RV supply store or repair shop. The season is so short (the season is now) that it can't support a year-round store. We stopped at another RV park and were able to dump the tanks in their dump station. We also bought an entire new hose and connection kit that will work in the RV parks. When we tried it we discovered we had been missing two critical pieces for park connections. So HOORAY, we are in business in that department!
While we were in town, we visited a grocery store. I bought a knee brace. I injured my right knee at the Delicate Arch. Someone bumped into me as I was just standing up, knocking my leg crooked against a rock. I felt lucky to make it back to the car by very careful walking and judicious selection of steps on the trail. But as the knee is still bothering me, this will give it a chance to heal. We also got groceries, and chipotle wraps for Paul's lunch and Caesar salad for mine--so delicious.
So, we are also using the day for housekeeping. I mentioned things were cramped a bit. What happens if you don't put everything away in its exact place, you can't find it again. It is difficult enough to remember where the exact place is in the first place!
I have wondered if we would be like the conestoga wagons dumping off possessions here and there along the way as we felt more and more crowded. Today we are discarding the old RV dump hose which we replaced today and a slightly broken fold-up chair that is taking up valuable space. And so it begins. . .
The photo of the day is an example of the hundreds of off-road vehicles in our park and everywhere. Our layover also gives me a chance to catch up on the blog, and since it is daytime, I am able to get decent internet reception and quicker loading of photos. I took the opportunity to update previous day blogs and add photos.
