Thursday, April 6, 2017--Bluewater Lake State Park, Prewitt, N.M. to Rancheros de Santa Fe Campground, Santa Fe, New Mexico--220 miles

At 7 am the temperature outside was 24 degrees. We, on the other hand, had a furnace keeping us warm. Our bed, lost some comfort in keeping the furnace working. I propped my head of the bed up so the heat had a place to go. Furthermore, Sofie refused to stay on her bed on the floor so joined us in our shrunken bed.
It was surprising to see the wild horses grazing nearby outside the motorhome.
We took a walk and found this red-backed Dark-eyed Junco. more Mountain Bluebirds, Mountain Chickadee, Red-naped Sapsucker, Cassin's Finch, Western Bluebirds, White-breasted Nuthatch  and heard and saw a Pinyon Jay (life bird #1 for the trip).

Red-Naped Sapsucker and the long-sought Pinyon Jay!

A brilliantly blue Mountain Bluebird and a Mountain Chickadee

It was 10 am and 50 degrees by the time we left Bluewater campground. On the way out of the campground a Roadrunner streaked across the road, too fast for our cameras.
Highway 40 (used to be Route 66) was full of big trucks and lots of traffic all the way to Albuquerque. A maze of colorful highway bridges decorated the skies in Albuquerque.

Changing scenery leaving Albuquerque for Santa Fe

After getting to Santa Fe, we stopped at the Georgia O'Keefe Museum.

Santa Fe is a busy place, especially the art district. We were entranced by the beautiful architecture of Santa Fe

We made it to our RV park campsite in time for a quick supper and a walk on a trail through the juniper/pine forest. I was surprised to immediately see a Juniper Titmouse before I could get a photo (life bird). This Chipping Sparrow was more cooperative.

Today Our Eyes Were On:

  2. Great blog and wonderful birds. When we travel and stay at RV Parks with hookups we always carry a small electric heater. You can get a small one from almost anywhere. We turn it on and use the park's electricity which we paid for instead of our propane. We don't leave it on at night while we are sleeping. Just a thought but you may be cramped for room. Travel Safe.
