Saturday, April 22, 2017--REST DAY!

It is 75 degrees at 7 am. The temperature gauge scarcely moves from night to day and the stiff breeze is constant. The breeze is our salvation.
We stopped by Sheepshead Road early and found nothing but a fly-by hummingbird.
Birds are very quiet today. Will we get the predicted Fallout tomorrow??  Is it the calm before the storm?
     S. Padre Island certainly has very posh and elegant homes.

We explore north on the island past civilization. THE realtor business has a sort of Taj Mahal type office. This is the same realtor that built the Birding Center.

He also built huge condos on the island. You could imagine what the island was like before development.

The wind was playing havoc with the road in places, trying to cover it up.
Paul thought we might find some birds but we didn’t see any. There is no escaping wind turbines.

Heading back toward civilization. So far the birds today are one Inca Dove, Laughing Gulls, Grackles and Mockingbirds.
We paid for 3 more nights at our RV park, hoping we might fall into a “fall-out”.
Then we went to McDonald’s to try to post my photos and blog. I was able to post only one day's blog. When we went back this afternoon, the internet was just too slow.We came back to our RV site, opened the windows and doors and let the breeze take care of us. It is doing a lovely job this afternoon.

Then we went to the Convention Center and watched juvenile grazing White Ibis and three acrobatic Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks.

Also a Yellow Warbler and a Redhead
We were excited to see a spectacular Tri-colored Heron.
As we walked the boardwalk this evening, Sofie had a bad spell.  Her back legs seemed weak and dragged; she was generally droopy.
A nice birder drove us all back to the RV park and our RV neighbor helped us hose Sofie off. She just was too hot. We had gone to the boardwalk a bit earlier than usual and the walk on the hot pavement was too much for her.
After the cooling-off she perked up and seems fine now. We just have to watch that she doesn't overheat again. Scary!
